The Celtics get ready for a tough stretch
The Boston Celtics have quite the week ahead of them.  They will be heading down south to jockey for position in the Eastern Conference standings, with trips to Orlando, and Atlanta, and then a return to the parquet to face the Los Angeles Lakers. This will be a crucial week coming up, and they can send a message throughout the league if they are victorious.

The Celtics becoming hard to watch
The Boston Celtics have lost 8 of their last 12 games.  Last night’s loss to the lowly Detroit Pistons sums up the way the Celtics have been losing, and that is, starting out strong, only to fade late. The C’s opened up the game shooting 61 % from the floor in the first half.  Paul Pierce (21 points), Rajon Rondo (21 points), and Rasheed Wallace (16 points), all started off...

B's get dumped by Sens
The Boston Bruins were blown out yesterday by the Ottawa Senators, 5-1.  The Senators and Bruins are now tied for second place with 54 points. Tim Thomas had another woeful performance, yielding three goals on nine shots before getting pulled in the second period.  Thomas has been tough to figure out this season.  The reigning Vezina Trophy winner has seen his goals-against average soar to...

Celtics lose at home again
The Boston Celtics were dealt their seventh loss at home this season, as the Dallas Mavericks came away with a 99-90 win.  Dirk Nowitzki went off, shooting over Celtics defenders with ease, finishing with 37 points (22 in 2nd half) on 14-22 shooting from the floor. The Celtics played well in the first half, building up a double-digit lead before settling for a nine point advantage at the break...

NFL Playoff Predictions
Here are my picks for this week’s playoffs… AFC Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts A lot of people are thinking the Colts are going to come out rusty (and maybe they will for a little bit), but Peyton and company have had too good of a season to get bounced early. Prediction: Colts 24-17 New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers This is the toughest game to predict, as both teams come in...

Everett prevails with ease over Somerville, 64-47
The Everett Crimson Tide came out of the gates strong, building an early lead, and racing to a 64-47 victory over the Somerville Highlanders last night.  Both teams made runs throughout the game.  The Somerville deficit fluctuated from as many as 20 points, to as little as 8, but Everett (5-2, 3-1) proved to be too much in the end. Rodman Noel led the host Crimson Tide with 13 points, 11...

Bulls Stampede the Celtics
The Boston Celtics were beaten at home again last night, losing to the Chicago Bulls, 96-83.  Luol Deng led five Bulls in double-figures with 25 points, including 8-13 from the field, and 9-10 at the free-throw line.  Derrick Rose won the highly anticipated point guard match up, scoring 17 points, and pulling down eight rebounds. The absence of Kevin Garnett, and Rasheed Wallace really hurt the...

Bruins prove they can swim with Sharks
]]> The Boston Bruins notched a big win last night, outlasting the San Jose Sharks in a shootout, 2-1.  Zdeno Chara provided the heroics, scoring the only goal in the shootout.  Chara scored on the 4th attempt, leaving only one chance for the Sharks to answer.  Patrick Marleau had the fate of the game in his hands, but Tim Thomas (41 saves) had other ideas, denying Marleau, and putting the...

Bruins Quacked by Ducks
The Boston Bruins squandered a 3-2 lead in the third period, and lost to the Anahiem Ducks, 4-3.  Ryan Getzlaf tied the game at 3, and Steve Eminger netted the game-winner, stuffing a rebound past Tuukka Rask (32 shots, 28 saves) with 11:53 remaining in the game. Zdeno Chara (4), Matt Hunwick (6), and Marco Sturm (15) highlighted the Bruins scoring department.  The shots on goal were just about...

Celtics Incinerate Nets
The Boston Celtics lowered the boom on the New Jersey Nets last night, 111-87.  The Celtics had seven guys in double figures, including a game-high 24 points from Paul Pierce (3-5 3pt, 9-9 FT).  The C’s also had 30 assists, with Rondo dishing out 14. Pierce and company delivered the knockout blow early, scoring at a furious pace, and building up a 71-35 lead at the half.  The Nets...

Everett beats Cambridge in early season showdown,...
The Crimson Tide boys basketball team traveled to Cambridge last Friday night, and defeated their rival Cambridge Rindge and Latin, 59-55.  The win was bittersweet, as sophomore sensation Nerlins Noel injured his left leg during pre-game warmups.  Noel suffered a cracked growth plate, and will spend the next six weeks in a cast. Junior forward Erno Deshommes stepped up in the absence of...

Celtics beat red-hot Raptors
Rasheed Wallace had his best game in a Celtics uniform, dropping 29 points on 9-12 shooting (5-7 3pt, 6-6 FT), and adding 8 rebounds, as the C’s held on to beat the Toronto Raptors, 114-107. Rajon Rondo (22 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists) added his first triple-double since last year’s playoffs (sixth of his career), proving to be too much for the Raptors to handle.  The...

Pats end season miserably
The New England Patriots were slapped around today by the Baltimore Ravens, 33-14.  Tom Brady had his worst performance in postseason history, turning the ball over 4 times (3 picks, 1 fumble), leading to 20 points scored off turnovers for the Ravens. The Ravens came out of the gates flying, taking advantage of a Patriots team that never showed up.  It couldn’t have been more apparent...

Lucic returns, Savard gets hurt
The Boston Bruins suffered another crushing blow, as Marc Savard left the game in the first period with an apparent knee injury.  No reports yet on the severity, I sure hope it’s not serious, because the B’s cannot afford to lose him for any length of time. The B’s looked good early on as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period.  Blake Wheeler added his 11th of the...

Bama hooks Longhorns for Title
Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban may not have been pleased with his Gatorade bath (honestly, it was the worst Gatorade celebration I have ever seen), but the addition of a National Title to his mantle, might lighten the mood a bit. After appearing like a deer in headlights in the opening minutes of the game, Alabama settled down, with the help of a knockout blow to Texas quarterback Colt McCoy...

Brady looks to find playoff touch
Tom Brady knows a little something about the playoffs.  The proud owner of three Super Bowl titles, including MVP in Super Bowl’s XXXVI and XXXVIII, will have his work cut for him against the Baltimore Ravens.  The added difficulty comes from the devastating loss of Wes Welker, who was Brady’s main target all season, and the league-leader in receptions. Insert Julian Edelman, who...

Return of Pierce and Rondo boosts Celtics over...
Dwayne Wade had just stolen the ball from Ray Allen, racing down the court for a two-handed dunk, and landing what appeared to be the knockout blow to the Celtics.  I immediately dropped a few F-bombs, kicked my living-room chair, and looked toward the sky asking the basketball gods “why!?”  Amidst the crowd going into a frenzy, was the fact that 0.6 seconds remained on the clock. ...

Short-Handed Bruins respond nicely in 4-1 rout of...
24 hours after the gut-wrenching loss to the New York Rangers, and injury of Patrice Bergeron to a fractured thumb (2-6 weeks), can be disheartening in a locker room.  The B’s, however, showed up in Ottawa last night, and made quick work of their division rivals. The scoring got started early, and often, as the Bruins laced the biscuit four times in the first period to take a commanding...

Everett's Defense keys victory over Medford
Dequan Lee and Matt Costello led the way with 13 points each, as Everett (3-1, 1-0) outlasted Medford (4-3, 0-1) 50-38.  The win sets up an early season showdown at Cambridge this Friday night, where the bitter rivals will meet in what’s expected to be a heavyweight bout. The Crimson Tide turned against the Mustangs when Everett’s brilliant defensive display keyed a dominating 14-3...

Red Sox sign Beltre
The Boston Red Sox made it clear that there are no plans for Mike Lowell to play third base, as Adrian Beltre has signed a one-year deal.  This isn’t much of a surprise, since the Sox traded Lowell to Texas, but a failed physical brought him back.  The Sox have decided to continue on with their disinterest in Lowell, so it’s on to Adrian Beltre. Beltre comes over from Seattle, where...

The McCluster Fluster
I’m going to tell you why Dexter McCluster of Ole Miss is the most exciting player in college football, and why he would be a great addition to any NFL teams roster, especially the New England Patriots. McCluster stands at 5’8” and weighs 165 lbs, but, what may be lost in size, is more than made up with speed, skill, and toughness.  There isn’t one thing on the offensive...

Boise State edges TCU
We’ve seen this before, Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl, a trend that was started a few years ago, and glorified, was the gutsy statue-of-liberty call for the two-point conversion to beat Oklahoma.  Well, Boise State was at it again, and sure enough, when the game hung in the balance, the Broncos used some trickery to get the job done. It wasn’t Boise State’s star quarterback...

Bruins lose game, and Bergeron
The Boston Bruins were defeated by the New York Rangers last night, 3-2, but it’s not the loss of the game, but the loss of a player, that has Claude Julien shaking his head.  In the second period of last night’s action, Patrice Bergeron took a Dennis Wideman slap shot off the hand, leaving the game immiediately, and fearing that a fracture may be the prognosis. The injuries have...

The Celtics are bit hard by the Injury Bug
The Boston Celtics are currently 24-8 and sitting atop the Eastern Conference by a game in the loss column.  What’s the problem?  Injuries, and the Celtics have experienced plenty as the season rears it head to the halfway mark.  At the moment, the Celts are without Kevin Garnett (hyper-extended knee), Paul Pierce (knee infection), Rajon Rondo (hamstring), and Marquis Daniels (thumb).  Not...

The Winter Classic is a Classic
The NHL and it’s marketing team should get high praise for the inception of the Winter Classic, as the NHL finally has it’s own spectacle that all of the other major sports have.  The NFL has it’s tradition of playing on Thanksgiving Day, basketball has its marquee matchups live on Christmas Day, baseball puts on a show with its all-star weekend, and now the NHL has...

Welker blows out knee
The New England Patriots suffered a bad deal of fate, as team MVP Wes Welker left the game in the first quarter with what appears to be an ACL injury.  The knee will keep Welker sidelined for the rest of the season, and the foreseeable future. Oh yea, about the game, the Patriots almost won their second road game of the season, but, as this team has done all year, gave away a 4th...
