Smoltz stumbles in Red Sox debut
John Smoltz made his debut for the Red Sox last night, and it wasn’t a memorable one, as the Washington Nationals knocked him around for five runs, en route to a 9-3 victory. Smoltz went 5 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, 1 walk, and 5 K’s. Smoltz was around 91-92 mph on the fastball.
It wasn’t his best outing, but it was his first of the season, and Smoltz did...
Smoltz debuts tonight vs Nationals
John Smoltz will make his much anticipated debut tonight as he takes the mound against the Washington Nationals. Everyone in Red Sox Nation has been chomping at the bit to see the future hall of famer, and tonight the eyes of the Nation will be locked in. Smoltz is just another one of the many arms that the Sox pitching staff brings to the table.
Smoltz will be the X-factor to what is...
Mike Vick... A Patriot?
It’s pure speculation, but let’s entertain the thought of Michael Vick in a New England Patriots uniform. Think about it… there aren’t too many teams knocking on Vick’s door, I understand that the commish hasn’t reinstated him yet, but the message is quite clear when it comes to the majority of teams in the league regarding Vick’s situation (no one...
Ortiz leads the way, Sox rout Marlins, 8-2
David Ortiz was a one-man hit-machine in the fourth inning; busting the game open with 3 RBI’s on a home run (5) and a double. Big Papi appears to be getting on track, and since his visit to the optometrist, he has hit 3 home runs (I guess they’re pretty good eye-drops).
Tim Wakefield had another strong outing, lasting 6 innings, striking out 4, and yielding 2 runs over 6 hits. ...
Sox beat Phillies, 11-6, cruise to fifth straight
After an hour and a half rain delay, and a 5-0 lead, the Boston Red Sox were able to retain some gas in the tank, and defeat the Philadelphia Phillies, 11-6. The Sox were paced with good run production from Jason Bay (2 for 5, 3 RBI’s), and Julio Lugo (4 for 5, 2 RBI’s).
Once again, Dice-k struggled, throwing 4 innings, and giving up 4 runs on 7 hits. But, the bullpen bailed him...
Sox top Phillies in extras, 5-2
The Boston Red Sox scored 3 runs in the top of the 13th to beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-2. Jacoby Ellsbury broke the tie when he singled to right with the bases loaded, scoring Jason Bay. Nick Green drove in a sacrifice fly, and Mike Lowell singled to center for the third run of the inning. Daniel Bard picked up his first career save, striking out the side, and showing why he is one of...
Sox comeback to sweep Yanks, 4-3
The Boston Red Sox came back in the eighth inning to beat the New York Yankees, 4-3, and improved to 8-0 against their hated rivals, the longest unbeaten start since 1912. Takashi Saito picked up the win, and for the second night in a row, Jonathan Papelbon slammed the door shut and recorded his 16th save.
Brad Penny may have pitched his best game in a Red Sox uniform, tossing 6 innings of...
Sox edge Yanks, 6-5
Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 15th save, and the Boston Red Sox took sole possesion of first place with last night’s victory. The Sox are now 7-0 against the Yankees, and will be looking for a three game sweep tonight.
Chien-Ming Wang’s struggles continued for the Bronx Bombers, as he departed after 2 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, and walking 3. Mike Lowell...
Beckett tosses gem, Sox blank Yanks, 7-0
The Boston Red Sox improved to 6-0 against the New York Yankees, as Josh Beckett threw 6 innings of 1-hit baseball, striking out 8, and continuing his dominant stretch on the mound.
David Ortiz got the scoring started in the second inning when he belted a two-run homer (3) to center. After Mark Kotsay walked, and Nick Green reached on a botched double-play attempt from A-Fraud, J.D. Drew...
Yankees come to town with first place on the line
The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will get to together at Fenway for a three game set with first place looming in the balance. The Red Sox have taken the first five meetings, but the slate is wiped clean since those victories came against an A-Rod-less Yankees team. The Yanks were 13-15 the last time these two rivals met, and since A-Fraud has joined the lineup, they are 21-8.
A big...
Red Sox sweep Tigers, 6-3
The Boston Red Sox finished off their first three-game road sweep of the season with a 6-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers. The Sox trailed 3-0 early, and then the roof caved in for Dontrelle Willis and the Tigers, as 6 runs were scored in the top half of the third, thanks in large part to Willis.
Willis (1-3), lasted only 2.1 innings, giving up 5 runs, and walking 5. Jason Bay delivered...
Rodney Harrison retires
After an illustrious 15-year career, Rodney Harrison will be hanging up his cleats, as he announced his retirement from the NFL yesterday. Harrison spent 9 seasons with the San Diego Chargers, and 6 with the New England Patriots.
He was apart of two Super Bowls with the Patriots, and turned New England’s secondary into a recievers worst nightmare. If it wasn’t for back-to-back...
Beckett outstanding again in Sox win
Josh Beckett took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Curtis Granderson spoiled the fun with a line-drive base hit. Beckett ended up yielding 2 hits in 7 2/3 innings, striking out 9, and not allowing an earned run. Beckett may have had a shaky April, but has been lights-out since the start of May, winning all but one game in that span (Pap’s blown save against the Mets).

Lester strikes out 12, Sox hammer Jays, 8-2
After a series full of Toronto highlights, the Boston Red Sox took their frustration out on the Blue Jays pitching staff yesterday, smacking four home runs on their way to an 8-2 win, and avoiding a three-game sweep in the Rogers Centre.
Kevin Youkilis provided the Sox with plenty of pop, going 2 for 3 with two solo jobs (9). He was accompanied by Dustin Pedrioa and Jason Bay in the long ball...
